13.05 - 13.30Enrico Cacciorni, Angel Investor, Former Vice President Bank of America. Enrico will compare his rowing experience with the experience of Leonardo Pettinari, a close friend and rival for many years; Pettinari decided to continue with a rowing career winning 3 Olympic medals and 6 World Championships, Enrico moved to the finance world; the presentation illustrates the different career paths and what we can be learned from them. Main differences that will be discussed:

Enrico will have a couple of slides with "Lessons for Students and Executives"

      Please beware that the venue is a sports club and not a 5 star conference center. We are guests in a prestigious British Club with a strong membership tradition. Please respect the Club members who will visit their Club to follow the race amongst Club members but were willing to host the seminar. The Hon House Steward of LRC expressed to see a friendly and joyful mix of seminar attendees and Club members before, during and after the race. Enjoy the authenticity of the venue!

      Directions
      It is best to arrive in Putney on Boatrace day by public transport as there are so many visitors and additional parking restrictions. Putney Bridge tube station on the District Line or Putney Station on the overground are both 10 minutes walk from the Club. There are several rowing clubs along Embankment at Putney. London Rowing Club is the closest to Putney Bridge & has a large open balcony.

      Drivers wishing to park are advised to try the Waitrose Carpark in the Exchange shopping centre in the High Street.

      All speakers will be videotaped. The video's will be posted on the educational website of The Wall Street Journal Europe. Speakers are asked to write a paper about their subject. In case a paper is available, the paper will be published on the educational website.

      Mr. Dodd is considered an expert on the history of the Boat Race. He authored the following books: Battle of the Blues on the Boat Race which was published for the 150th race, has copious pics and includes a CD for the anoraks' stuff and can be obtained from Julia Lindsey at the Boat Race Co. whose office is at Thames RC (julia@theboatrace.org) +44 779 852 4150. Water Boiling Aft, a sumptuous history of London RC published 2 years ago that is really the story of the water where the Boat Race takes place and how Putney became the capital of professional and amateur rowing.       2003: David (Oxford) and James (Cambridge) Livingston race against each other in the 149th Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, watched by over eight million people. It was the first time brothers had battled each other in this gladiatorial and quintessentially British tradition for over a hundred years. Only one could be victorious. In their book “Blood Over Water”, David and James tell their stories for the first time, giving an intimate insight into one of our least understood but best-loved national sporting occasions.

      David studied for a BA in Biological Sciences at Christ Church Oxford (2001-2004) and then stayed for a further year to complete an MSc in Management Research at the Said Business School. His main passion throughout his time at Oxford was to win the Oxford Cambridge University Boat Race. In 2003 he won the closest ever Boat Race by a margin of one foot against a Cambridge crew containing his older brother James.

      James went up to Cambridge in 1999 to read Natural Sciences. He was twice selected for the Cambridge reserve crew, Goldie, before graduating to the Cambridge Blue Boat. James returned to Cambridge, starting a one year course in Management to give him a final chance of victory. James was again selected for the Cambridge Blue Boat but lost in the closest race of all time, against his younger brother David.

      Enrico Cacciorni
      Enrico Cacciorni Angel Investor, Former Vice President Bank of America
      Enrico started rowing in 1983 at Canottieri Bissolati in Italy; he won numerous medals in national and international regattas, such as three medals in Italian Championship U14 and U16 with the single scull and as stroke of a quadruple. In 1989 and 1990 Enrico represented Italy at European level, winning medals in international regattas as single sculler and as stroke of Italian quadruple. He was also awarded the Bissolati Club Athlete of the Year Award in ’89. Enrico retired from competitive rowing in 1991.

      Enrico holds an MSc. Eng. (Honors) from Brescia University, where he was a full-scholarship student, and an MBA from London Business School; he has worked as a corporate venturing manager, management consultant and more recently was Vice President of European Mergers & Acquisitions at Bank of America in London. Enrico is currently co-founder and Director of Overglowing, an internet start-up, an active angel investor and a non-Executive Director.

      Ben started rowing on the Union Canal in Edinburgh at George Heriot's School in 1977. He represented Scotland at the Home Countries as a junior. His four won the Fours Cup in 1982 at the National Schools. Ben then went on to row at Edinburgh University while studying engineering as a distraction from training. He was due to represent the BVI in lightweight singles at the Commonwealth Games in 1986, but the team was withdrawn as part of the boycott.

      On moving south he initially rowed at TTRC. He arrived at London RC in the Autumn of 1991 when Robin Williams commenced his coaching career. Ben rowed in the first eight in the HORR from 1992 to 1996. He represented Britain in lightweight events from 1993-96 including the Atlanta Olympics. He rowed in the four that broke the world record and made the final in the Stewards and the Queen Mother in 1994 at HRR. He has a world silver medal in the lightweight eight in 1995 as well as a Lucerne gold and two silver medals. After retiring from competitive rowing he moved to New York for a year and a half with his wife Ashleigh and their very new daughter Gemma

      He was Captain for the 1998/99 season and has been on the Committee since. Ben is a Fund Manager at Augustus Asset Managers Ltd. He lives in Putney with his wife and three children. He is tasked with convincing recently retired oarsmen to carry on and enjoy their rowing after years of training every hour of the day. He co-ordinated the initial fundraising effort for the development, is also the Child Welfare Officer for the club and the High Performance Programme liaison for the club with BIRO.
