QS Top MBA Community and Leadership Scholarship Winners Announced

US$20,000 Awarded to Six MBA Students from Six Nations

Six MBA students from six nations have won US$20,000 worth of scholarships from QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the UK-based career and education experts, announced today. The students, who became eligible for the awards by attending one of the 65 fairs on the QS World MBA Tour, have accepted places at CEU, Hungary; Cranfield, UK; RSM, the Netherlands; UC Davis, Hult and Michigan Ross, US.

Christian Rodriguez, from Peru, won the US$10,000 QS Leadership Scholarship, awarded to the MBA candidate demonstrating the most outstanding community leadership qualities. Rodriguez developed the Exporta Facil Project, which enables small and medium enterprises to export their products through the post. In 2009, over 90% of Peruvian mail exports were carried out through EFP. He will graduate from Michigan Ross in 2011.

The five winners of the QS Community Scholarships have each been awarded US$2,000 for demonstrating to the QS Scholarship Awards experts their commitment and unique skills in contributing to the advancement of their communities:

Yang Li, from China, founded the "Great Expectations Society" in Renmin University, China in order to serve his fellow students' career development needs. He will graduate from Hult Business School in 2011.

Amit Mahajan, from India, actively participated in a corporate social services committee, taking initiatives to educate children from orphanages and help improve their living conditions. He will commence at Cranfield Business School in the UK in September 2010.

Duncan Ochieng, from Kenya, will graduate from CEU in 2010. He was a member of the Workers Union at Heidelberg East Africa, trustee of their Pension Fund and worked on projects related to water and electricity provision to households and schools.

Alexandru-Cosmin Buteica created the Romanian Business Students Association and FORCE - Foundation for Opportunity, Responsibility and Chance for Education. Alexandru won a Société Générale competition to fund FORCE and support social entrepreneurship. He is now doing his Masters degree at RSM in Holland.

Christine Darter, from the USA, is a teacher who developed new ways of engaging pupils into word problems and critical thinking and will develop her skills at University of California, Davis.

Nunzio Quacquarelli, Managing Director of QS, which provides the scholarships, said: "Once again, the selection committee were delighted by the quality of the many scholarship applications we received this year. It is a great testament, in this time of economic crisis, that so many MBA candidates are demonstrating their commitment to leadership within their communities. We firmly believe that each will continue this commitment, which represent those of QS, throughout their MBA programs and on into their careers."
